Call of Duty – Modern Warfare II Multiplayer Beta
I had the chance to participate in the MWII Multiplayer Beta and I had a fun time playing it. There were a lot of additions/changes that I appreciated… and some I really disliked.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Multiplayer Beta was available to play on two different weekends. The first weekend was on PlayStation exclusively – the first two days were for people who preordered the game and then to the rest of the PlayStation plus users. Then the second weekend was a Crossplay beta which was cool to play and experience.
Main Menu
The Main Menu was a bit weird to navigate. There were different slides that had categories like Message of the Day” and “What’s Hot,” but I was expecting to see the different game modes available. The Message of the Day showed what new maps were available, what killstreaks were and welcoming us to the beta. The “What’s Hot” section was where the game modes were shown and there was a last section which showed the games that were connected to each other, which were Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and the MW II Open Beta.
Game Modes
Throughout the Beta, we experienced a couple of different game modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy, Prisoner Rescue, Knockout and Third Person Mosh pit.
If you played Call of Duty before: Team Deathmatch, Domination and Search and Destroy – you should be familiar with those game modes. If not, then I will explain what they are. Team Deathmatch is two teams trying to reach a certain point goal, you must kill the opposite team until you reach the goal. In Search and Destroy you have one life and one team plants a bomb and the other diffuses the bomb. in Domination, You must take over three different areas until you meet the goal.
Now the new modes that they had were Prisoner Rescue, Knockout and Third Person Moshpit.
Third Person Mode used to be in the original release of Modern Warfare 2, so it is nice to see it come back. It is three modes: Team Deathmatch, Moshpit and Hardpoint but in third person mode.
Prisoner Rescue is kind of like what we saw in that 2014 Rainbow Six Siege gameplay reveal. It is a no respawn mode where there are only a couple of revives to use (I’m not sure if it’s a couple revives for the team itself or each teammate). You must rescue the hostages and bring them back to your base. There are three hostages in total.
Knock Out is holding a package for a certain amount of time. Teammates can revive each other as well. This game mode can get hectic, but it is fun to play!
Operators
The characters we get to play are interesting this time around, I like their designs rather than black ops cold war. There are two groups – Specgru and Kortac. Specgru is the group where Price and Soap are a part of. In the beginning of the beta for Playstation, there were few characters, but then price, soap and others were added as the beta a little later. There are 9 total characters for Specgru and 5 for Kortac.
Gameplay and Perks
I really did like the gameplay of Call of Duty MW II; it reminded me of the Warzone gameplay. I played so many Black Ops Cold War, so the way guns shoot feels very refreshing. As always, we start off with the default classes which were pretty good by itself. They were seperated by it’s uses, so Assault had the Assault Perk Package, and Field Upgrade called Battle Rage and an M4 assault rifle with a shotgun as its secondary.
Now it may seem weird to hear something called Perk Packages, it is weird! Now the perks aren’t separate. You can’t just choose what you want like Scavenger with Sleight of Hand or any other perk. Now perks are combined into packages depending on what you need, so there are like 4 perks in one package. Two of them are activated in the beginning of the match, and the more you play throughout the match and get kills, the other perks will activate. I don’t really like it as much, but I’ll see how it goes when the game is released.
You could still add attachments to your weapons and add stickers on your guns. The loadouts have grenades and tactical as always but there are different ones – I really like the shock stick tactical and thermite. We also have loadout drops on top of the packaged perks. So, there is a lot of variety in gameplay when you have those things together.
The score streaks are pretty cool as well. It is up to 15 kills, and they have a couple of new things. One of my favorites is the Wheelson-HS because it does so much damage. I had gotten that from a care package, and it was so fun to use.
The Release
The full game comes out in a couple of hours, so we will see how many changes have been made since the beta. I am excited to play the multiplayer again, people have been playing the campaign and enjoyed it so far. So, I will do the same and get ready for the rest of the game!
