For the first time in years, there's a bunch of crazy good games coming out in the summer, which means no more dry gaming season. Instead of going outside and touching grass and suffering through that dreadful heat, you can stay indoors and play these masterpieces of games. Seeing how expensive games are now, we are now in the season of broke summer 69.99 for Standard, 79.99 for Deluxe, and 99.99 for Ultimate edition games. It's getting ridiculous, but sadly a few of these games will eat through our wallets, so here are a few games that will keep us occupied until the fall.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Three minutes and fifty-five seconds. That's all the time Nintendo needed to restart the hype train. Without a doubt, Tears of the Kingdom will be phenomenal, and it might be the final game of its saga. It's being pushed to its limits with its improved style and graphics, new mechanics and powers, and I'm still wondering how all that will work. Key characters and villagers will be helping you out in battle. But the biggest character of them all is my man Ganondorf! He is back in his prime, ready for the final fight against Link and his friends. Will he claim victory again, or will Link finally prevail and have true peace in the kingdom? We'll see when the game comes out in a few weeks on May 12. It's a must-have for every Switch player, even if you don't like or play the Legend of Zelda. Seeing how the game grew over the years and changed is just something special because every time I rewatch the trailer, I say: "man what more can they do?"
Street Fighter 6
The amount of gameplay we've seen so far has been incredible, and playing the beta a few months ago has made me want to play it even more. I'd like to know what they will show us during Capcom's Street Fighter 6 Showcase event on April 20th. What's hilarious though is that I have three weeks to enjoy Tears of the Kingdom before I play Street Fighter 6! I don't know if I will be able to finish the game in time, but we'll see when this game releases on June 2nd, and probably the only game this summer that still costs 59.99. Thanks, Capcom.
Diablo IV
Literally, four days after Street Fighter 6 drops, Diablo IV comes out! I looked up to the sky and said why Xbox? Why Blizzard? Why do you forsake me so?! Where am I going to find the time to play this? My backlog is already piling up, but I must play this. I must embrace the darkness and suffer in its world for its incredible dreadful loot, either alone or with friends by my side as we experience DARKNESS together. Diablo releases on June 6 for 69.99 for the standard edition, 79.99 for the deluxe edition, and 99.99 for the collector's edition. Now let us pray to the gods above that this game is in Game Pass because the way my wallet is looking, I don't know if I'll survive until fall gaming.
Final Fantasy 16
I feel like I've seen so much gameplay and still think I have not seen all that can be shown. After seeing PlayStation's State of Play, all I was thinking about was how the hell can a game be this massive and beautiful?! The scale of the world is so blissful, the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard this year, and the combat is like Devil May Cry and Asura's Wrath had a baby. Seeing how far the Final Fantasy series has come is intimidating but exciting. We used to only see that type of action in cutscenes but were never able to do it ourselves. But now, in Final Fantasy 16, you can be a total badass! This game will be a hell of a ride when it releases on June 22.
Baldur's Gate 3
Finally, it's time for one of the greatest role-playing games to release ever since the early access back in 2020. I've been playing and keeping an eye on all the updates Larian Studios has shown us. Seeing a company be this transparent and showing us month by month how development is going has been a treat, and now the game is finally releasing on August 23. All I have to say is if you love RPGs, you'll love how wonderful and fleshed out this game is. You have to experience it for yourself. You will understand more once you witness the great world-building, fun combat and exploration, and deep conversations throughout your playthrough.
I feel that these games alone are going to be Game of the Year contenders with how much content each one has. Hell, even games coming out this month, like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Island 2, I know my backlog will be ridiculous. We don't even know what we'll see during Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest, so my soul will be happy, but my wallet will forever be empty.
