Street Fighter 6 Showcase and Demo Impressions!
Capcom is reinventing and raising the bar on Fighting Games and giving us a hands-on look with the demo!
The game has yet to be released, but I consider Street Fighter 6 one of the best fighting games ever. Capcom had a Street Fighter 6 Showcase on April 20th that went deeper into the game modes, story mode, character creation, and more. There was even a demo announced! After seeing the showcase and experiencing the demo, Capcom has proved they can bring something fresh to the fighting game genre.
It seems like you'll be traveling to different locations to learn new moves and explore multiple city locations! You can create your character with even more detail now and fewer restrictions, so your main character can be as little as possible or taller than the whole cast. It also affects hit detection, which is hilarious, so you can have small arms and long legs and still fight!
The game reminds me of Yakuza, with how you can go around and fight anybody around you, buy items to boost your stats before or even during a fight, upgrade skills, and more! They also showed off the Battle Hub, where you can interact with other players, take photos, play casual and ranked battles, play retro games, and participate in tournaments, which is so cool!
I appreciate that there are many game modes. I can't wait to play the story mode. It feels like they put a lot of time into it. There are cutscenes with different characters in the game, and it expands on the characters' backstory even further. It gives them all a personality you wouldn't get by reading a bio or playing as them in a match.
There were also four characters announced as DLC for the rest of the year and next year, some new and some returning, with an all-new design for them as well! The characters are Rashid (Summer 2023), A.K.I (Autumn 2023), Ed (Winter 2023), and Akuma (Spring 2024)! I wish Akuma were among the first to come out, but I understand. I love the changes done so far, and everything was built from the ground up, so it'll take time to work on the characters.
It's interesting, but you're to have fun with the game. Because of that, anyone really can pick up and play the game. With its wide range of control schemes and accessibilities, you can easily play to your heart's content without worrying that you need to improve, especially with the game's robust tutorials. Even in the story mode, they provide a dope tutorial showcasing the different things you can do, which you can get a taste of playing in the demo. You can play and learn how you want to at any pace.
Demo Experience
When I tried the demo, I quickly wanted to see what it was about. So, I created my black Geralt of Rivia, paying homage to one of my favorite RPGs, The Witcher 3, and so far, it was engaging as I thought! You can literally go around the city and challenge anyone to a fight. You get XP to level up, some emotes, and gear to customize your character.
It's pretty crazy how fluid the game is! The introduction to the story seems interesting as well. So far, things seem simple to understand and easy to go forward with the game, but obtaining strength and new moves will be a fun ride. The game feels even better to play this time, with less latency compared to the last time I played the beta, which is really cool. And they took people's feedback from the closed betas and implemented it in the demo. Some improvements include the character creation process, more training options, and adding a toggle in the graphics settings to reduce input delay even more.
I can't wait to experience more of the game when it releases on June 2nd. Hopefully, they release an open beta so I can play it even more. Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game sandbox that everyone should experience. It set the bar high for fighting games with its many innovations and catering to new and old players. It will be a wild ride because there are other fighting games like Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 12 on the horizon. Tekken 8 may get a release date soon, and Mortal Kombat 12 may get officially announced during the Summer Game Fest. When that happens, fighting games will return on the hype train again!
